    Non resident alien paying property tax and home mortgage interest.
    What is the tax treatment of the interest and real estate taxes amount being paid by a non resident alien living and working in the US on a property owned by him in his native county.
    Is this a deductible item on the Sch A as an itemized deduction.

    Non-resident aliens may only deduct expenses for things that are connected with their US trade or business income - that would include state and local taxes, charitable contribuions, casualty and theft losses, and business travel. Real estate taxes and interest payments on a home in the native country don't qualify. See pages 28-31 of:
