My dog Gags, licks the floor and paces back and froth. Why does she do this?
Sometimes my dog will get in thes gagging spells and when she does she paces back and foth, licks the floor and gags but nothing comes up. She eats and drinks just fine, the first time this happened she was throwing up so I brought her the to vet and they did an x-ray on her stomach and she was full of leave, they get them out and then she was fine. I thought it was the samething again but the vet said her stomach was fine, This is the second time this week she has had her gagging spell. What should I do?

It could be a vitamin deficincy.

My horse *I know, different animal* will eat wood like we've never fed him. His diet doesn't have salt and minerals in it, so we have to buy a salt lick.

But.. He may be needing something in his diet that his food isn't giving him. Maybe instead of an x-ray, do a blood test on him. To be specific, a titer test. That test will search for anitbodies and/or minerals the dog is lacking. It's a bit expensive, but I'm sure it would tell you what's going on

Ok maybe I'll look at his food and see what it all has in it. I did call the vet and they said that it might be a liver problem, what do you think?

Gagging is also a symptom of a heart murmur. But I would assume your vet would have checked that out. What is the breed?

It could be his liver.. If his liver isn't creating the enzymes needed in the body, he may be acting strange and licking the floor. He could have a very dry mouth, which is why he is gagging, kind of like when you have a very dry mouth and are trying to get it wet.

When the liver fails, different areas of the body are effected immediately. So it could very well be the liver. Like I said, I think you should do a blood test to see if the organs are working properly.
