I'm having a hard time understanding your post.

What do you mean that you try to tell your mom? Does she not know about your grandparents illnesses?

Tell her what? Tell her you are scared?

Diabetes is not fatal; kidney failure is not fatal.

Has anyone talked to you about your grandparents' illnesses with specific information and detail?

Being close or not close does not change the medical information.

You found this site. Research diabetes and kidney failure. You are looking for something to do - research will keep you busy.

You'll also learn something. Knowledge will go a long way toward your peace of mind.

Start here - Diabetes - AOL Health

    And then go here -
Chronic Kidney Disease - AOL Health

My late husband was diabetic AND had end stage kidney disease, was on dialysis. He did NOT die of either.

You need to learn as much as you can about both. You also need to keep an eye on the health of your other family members and yourself - diabetes has a strong genetic factor.
