Ok I like this guy we been friends for a year or two and he sounds like he likes me 1 day and the next he will talk about another girl he but he lives in a different town so I don't get to see him a lot and we mostly text but he will ask me about this girl I know and if she likes him or not and that girl makes fun of him.

It does sound like he thinks of you as a friend and not a girlfriend. He may be using you to know more about the other female. He may be using discussions about her as something to talk about with you.

If you want to see if there is more than friendship with him, ask him out and make it clear that it is a date not just 'hanging out'. Talking to him is the only way you are going to end the confusion.

Tell him that if he wants to know about the 'girl you know' to talk to her. It's the only way he will know what she thinks.

Are you certain that you 'like' him as more than a friend or are the feelings more of a very good friendship? Sometimes, it is easy to mistake the two.
