It's in the first person. It's about a young boy who is severely abused by his(mother?). He has a younger sibling, I think a brother. I believe he has a mentor or someone who he talks to. I think the story is from the mentor's POV. At the end, the boy and his (brother) are discovered in a cellar. They have been there for a while and the baby has been dead for a while. The young boy is clutching on to the baby.

I know this is morbid, in my memory it's incredibly powerful. I read it for school a long time ago and no amount of Google searching is giving me a clue as to what the story is called! Help!!
