Please help... Any information on this. This is a very small etching by Albert Durer on fragile tan colored paper. The overall size is aprox. 6 1/2" by 8 1/2" high, the actual size of the etching is approximately 3 1/2" by 5" high. All I know about this piece is that it was hanging on a family's wall in Germany for over 60 years. Where it came from and how old it is, no one seems to know. I'm trying to date this and find out any information on this piece including the value and most importantly who's signature is signed on this etching. Any help would be greatly appreciated - Thank you

The signature is a bit hard to read in your pictures. He is probably the copyist, since that rabbit is slightly different from Durer's famous rabbit.

The signature is Albert Durer 1502 The Picture is a painting of a Hare, so if this is etching it is not an original.

Watercolour of A Young Hare by the German Renaissance master, Albrecht Durer. The work bears the artist's monogram, “AD”, and is dated, in the artist's elegant and slightly spidery hand, to the year 1502. It forms part of the formidable drawings collection of the Albertina in Vienna.


The fact that Durer so meticulously signed and dated this depiction, from life, of a crouching hare, suggests that he regarded it as rather more than a mere study.

Durer did not paint a "famous rabbit" it was a young hare, original is in Vienna, Austria

Thank you all for the information, if I'm understanding what your saying the original " YOUNG HAIR " that was done by Durer was a water color and he never made a print or etching of it himself. Someone else copied this water color and made prints/ etchings of it at some point and even though this might be old there's no value to this piece.

Hair is what you have on your head. A Hare is a rabbit like creature but has much longer back legs. Alice in Wonderland has a March Hare you must have heard of this one.
