We live in Alberta and have a strange building code that requires the ability to turn on an exhaust fan and the furnace fan at the same time from a remote switch separate from the Thermostat fan switch. We live in a remote location and can't get anyone out to connect. I have followed the instructions I have received and am having difficulty with the connection to the furnace. We have a double pole swtich which send 110 to the exhaust fan to turn on and also 110 to downstairs by the furnace. Was told to run this to a 24volt transformer and connect to the furnace. My question is do we then connect the C terminal from the transformer to the C terminal on the furnace (common) and the R terminal (hot) on the transformer to the G terminal on the furnace for this to work or am I missing a step? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

Sorry I don't get it, or why. Green is 24 volts from stat to turn on fan. R is 24 volts constant and W is 24 volts to start the heat cycle. Common is needed to complete the circuit and cause the relay to activate. Hope this was helpful.

Thanks, I am definitely not an expert but have good knowledge of standard house wiring and that is why I am confused with the instructions I received. From your response I am interuptting that the transformer is not required. Therefore to go from the standard 110 wiring from the switch is it perhaps a relay required to turn on the fan?

Yes, a 24 volt relay will be needed to switch on the fan.
