    F1 OPT Tax Implications
    "I am on an F1 and Filed for Extension of my OPT..following which I was employed for 25 hours a week for 2 months in summer. Does employer have to send me a 1099 or W2 and do they have to pay SSN, Medicare, FICA?"

    As an international student, you are exemption from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) taxes.

    More than likely, if taxes were withheld, you wkill get a Form W-2.

    If NO taxes were withheld, then you will get a Form 1099-MISC.

    Either form is legal.
