Error occurs when trying to e-file because box 16 if higher than box 1...
The error said that box 16 can not be greater than box 1. Box 16 is greater than box 1 because I have a retirement plan that is taxable in NY. The only thing I could find while attempting to resolve the issue it that New York State won't allow you to e-file if box 16 is higher than box 1, even though the error is happening for my federal return. For the past few years box 16 has been higher than box 1 and I've never run into this problem. Can anyone help please? Thanks in advanced for your response!

That problem MAY be unique to your tax software.

    WHICH software are you using?

I'm having the same problem, same error message. I'm using Turbo Tax and it won't let me efile my federal or state. Is it just the program or is it something from the IRS. Can I efile using a different program?

It has to be software-driven. I file similar returns with TaxAct with no problem at all.
