Filing Taxes While Receiving Disabily and Claim a Dependent?
Can I file taxes receiving a disability check and claim 1 dependent? I currently am receiving Disabily Benefits, however I have someone living with me that has zero income. I have supported them 100% without any type of assistance. We have lived on disability benefit meant for one person but have a two person household. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanking you in advance!

Sure you can. Why would you think you can't - is there something that you didn't post?

Do you receive some form of assistance based on your living arrangement?

No~I do not receive assistance from anyone. I wasn't sure if I could file federal & state taxes because there are not any taxes deducted from my check. Where would the refund come from since I don't pay in any taxes? Thank you!

It depends if the disability income is taxable or not.

Disability income from the Social Security fund is normally NOT taxable if it is your ONLY source of income.

Disability income from a private job IS taxable because it replaces your income from the job.

Disability income from a private insurance policy is NOT taxable.

Disability from Social Security is my only income in which is not taxed…was wondering if I could file 'head of household w/one dependent'? Thought I might be entitled to some sort of refund when the unearned income credit was added into my yearly benefit since I have supported a two person household (one dependent with zero income)? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanking you in advance!
