Removing concrete around pool that is already filled with dirt
My husband and I bought a house 2 years ago, that used to have an inground pool out back. The owners before the guy we bought it off, filled it in (not sure with what) but clay is the top layer. They did not remove ANY of the old concrete around the pool, or the diving board rails for that matter.
Anyway, I started breaking up one corner of the apron with a sledge hammer and crow bar, and have decided that method is going to take too long. I want it gone, as it is not level, is cracked and stained and just plain looks terrible. I also want to do it myself (until its time to move all this concrete) and am trying to do it as cheaply as possible.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I have no idea if I should just rent a jackhammer and go for it, or if there is another way I should go. We are not digging up the pool, as we have NO idea what is in there, since obviously its not the old concrete, we just want to break up the apron, dump some top soil there and plant grass.

    Any help would be appreciated!

To do it yourself I definitely would use a jackhammer the one I use in pool construction is a bosch 11318evs demolition hammer. Watch out for any plumbing lines and electrical lines. You may want to check the local codes before doing so because of any electrical lines that may be run underneath. Good luck with it
