I moved into an apartment with a close friend of mines of whom I considered a brother. Long story short, he decided to let one of his friends stay at our apartment without paying rent, which was also illegal since our apartment contract states that it is illegal to sublet. Every time the bills were due I would always have to pay them on time and wait for my roommate to pay me back. Not only that, but him and his friends were constantly smoking marijuana and the living environment became very hostile. With only 6 months left on our lease I felt like I had no other choice but to remove myself from the situation by moving out and at the same time knowing that I would be breaking the lease by not paying the next couple of months rent (pay or quit). He refused to sign my name off the lease so I am willing to take an eviction on my report because I can no longer take any of this. Now my roommate is harassing me about expecting my share of next month's rent and that I'd "better pay."

My question is: What is the best way course of action for me to take at this point?

Live up to your commentments and pay your rent.

Report the free loader to the owner to have him removed. Never pay more than your share,

Call the police and report the drugs in the home.
