How do I dispute income to the IRS?
I have not filed taxes for the 2009 filing year or 2010. Here is why. In 2008 I worked at a company and was paid by hand written checks that eventually turned into cash. By my calculations I had earned about 12,000 for the year. At the time I had a fulltime job and knew I would be paying self employment taxes. I filed using an accountant (friend) that year who did not include the 12,000. I ended up getting audited because the company reported that I had earned almost $32000! From them. Apparently some workers were fudging numbers on my name then cutting me totally different checks from what was actually being paid or giving me cash. I am currently trying to figure how what to do about this as well. The IRS says I owe almost 10,000 to them in back taxes and penalties just for that year! I did not work for this company at all in 2009. Now I find out the company reported 8000 income to the IRS. I was and still am unemployed. I moved to GA in 2009 looking for work. I clearly could not be there working and living here. (7 hours away) I was receiving unemployment as well. Now I have tried to contact the COMPANY about ALL of this and have been assured the matter will be handled. This has been going on since 2008 and I am tired of filing extensions to amend 08. And now I need to file 09 and 10, but if I do the IRS will take what is rightfully due to me because of the 08 issue. I know that this is a lot but can anyone help. Also the ex-friend who did my taxes moved and I have know way to find them and the company won't return my calls.
