    Can I be charged
    Hey guys this what happened my bro owns a vehicle and its registered under his name and all and its being used for his company and he had it for like a year now its just minivan now that he went on a vacation out of country he gave it to me to drive it I got in a accident and reported it after the inspection there was like a VIN problem and than the cops came and seized the car saying it was stolen is there something to worry about for me can I be charged of possessing a stolen property.. from the looks of it he might have bought it stolen and was not aware of it. I did not know the vehicle was stolen..

    Read this thread. A lot of it applies to your situation (even if you aren't in Canada).

    Thnkx for the help much needed... but one more question if the cops knew it was stolen why didn't they arrest me all they asked me if I knew if it was stolen and are they going to contact me for further investigation

    What will happen if your brother buys a stolen vehicle and u get caught driving it can u get charged with somtihng considering you did not know it was stolen..

    Perhaps they believed you.

    One cannot know if you will be contacted for further information.

    Just having it, while is a crime, is not always acted on. If they believe you bought it and did not know.
    And yes, a lot will go on if they officer believed you or of course they may be still investigating, looking at the paper work filed and more.

    You may get charged, best thing to do is tell the truth, if you didn't know it was stolen it isn't your fault

    Personally, I don't believe talking to the cops is a good idea. They're NOT interested in the truth... They're interested in CONVICTING somebody, and if they're talking to YOU, YOU'RE the one the want to convict...
