when is an expansion joint needed along perimeter of house?
I want to pour a concrete patio with house concrete block/slab foundation surrounding it on 3 sides, about 12 x 9 x 10 feet per side. Do I need to line the block with an expansion joint material such as asphalt/fiber before the pour to allow for expansion and contraction?

Is a gravel sub-base for the concrete necessary if soil has not been disturbed for 25 years?

    Thanks, M
