Has she seen a Physician? It could be a variety of things.

I would be concerned about this change of behavior.

It could be from lack of hearing. Definitely a doctor's evaluation is necessary.

    Has she stopped talking completely?

Does she talk in play school ?(if she goes)

Does she talk to her mother, cousins, grandmother etc?

When she plays by herself does she talk to her toys? sing along with songs?

Does she ask for food a drink?

Does she turn up the TV all the time?

4 year olds don't stop talking for no reason, something is going on,time for both parents to take her to the doctor and get some answers.

It is impossible to even hazard a guess as to what the problem may be without more information.

My four year old child has just done the same thing. We've been to the doctor and the doctor said it was due to the stress of us both going back to work around the same time. It's been close to a month and have been considering taking her to sign language classes so we can have some way to communicate.

I stopped talking as a five year old because of a traumatic event. I didn't speak for over a year, not even making sounds. Other family said even when hurt in a minor car accident I never made a sound but simply had tears roll down my cheeks. The doctors back then said I stopped talking because I was spoiled by my grandmother. Of course my family wasn't going to tell the doctor the truth about what had happened the night I stopped speaking, and in the 1960's schools didn't know what to do so they suspended me from kindergarten until I started speaking again which wasn't until the spring semester of first grade. I child doesn't stop speaking completely for no reason. If the doctors find nothing physical, I suggest a therapeutic evaluation hopefully she will get the help I never got. Give her love and support.

Children who stop talking at age 3,4, or 5 could be due to injury during their birth ,accidents that affected their brain, could be that the child has autism or the injuries during the child's birth after the child's mother going through C S and making the child have seizures which is capable of making the child relapse in mental growth which is connected to the auditory system and lead to sometimes the child making sounds or crying but not talking which could also make the child aggressive because of lack of the ability express him or herself, but seeing a speech therapist and a social worker along with a psychiatric doctor will help you..
