    "Duel" isn't in any way connected with Stephen King, who wasn't on the scene at that time. It's one of Steven Spielberg's early directing jobs and was so successful that it went from TV movie to international theatrical release. The story and screenplay are by Richard Matheson, who seems to be one of King's inspirations.
