Why is my 4 year old house making lound snaping and cracking noises this winter?
We bought a very expensive brick home this year (July 2010) that sat vacant for 4 years. Other than a tiny crack is the walkout foundation the interior and exterior were beautiful. We had an inspection report done prior to buying our home. No noticeable foundation problems were found. We live in Atlanta GA and they had record heat this past Summer and record snow and cold this winter. During the past several weeks of the snowstorm, I have heard carcking noises in the night the same type you would hear with new firewood in a fireplace. I have noticed some cracks in my detailed wood work on the main floor and above the arched doorway which is a load bearing wall. Please advise just how concerned we should be and who we should call to make sure our beautiful home remains sound.

How many inches of snow were on your roof at one time and what was your lowest temp. Your home may just be reaching to the extremes of your recent weather
