    Fair Debt Collection Laws
I am past due on my cell phone bill. Through a phone conversation with a company associate, I paid more than the minimum amount needed to maintain service, and made arrangements for the balance due to be paid in 2 weeks. I just now received another collections phone call. Isn't that illegal?"

    Hello K:

If you're suggesting that they broke the law by immediately calling you a second time, you're probably right... But, it's probably no more than the collection agent knowing what his right hand is doing... Of course, you TOLD the second agent that you already HAD a deal with them, and referred this guy to the one you made the deal with...

If you don't know who you made the deal with, and you don't have it in writing, you're not going to be able to prove it's illegal even if it is. Next time, get names and get agreements IN WRITING.
