    work, power, energy and mechanics..
    THE QUESTION:
    A laborer who weights 600 N is to carry 5 sacks of rice from the ground to the second floor of a storehouse. If the distance between floors is 3.5 m and the mass of each sack is 50 kg, find the total work done against gravity if the laborer carries only one sack at a time.

    MY QUESTION:
    how can I solve this problem?
    I was answering it and I don't know if I wrote the correct formula..

    Given:
    Mp = 600 N
    Ms = 50 kg
    dy = 3.5 m

    Solution:
    W = total work(mass)(gravity)(height/distance)
    = (Mp + Ms)(9.8 m/s squared)(3.5 m)
    = (600 + 50)(9.8 m/s squared)(3.5 m)
    = 22,295 Joule

    Did I answer it right? ***. Help...

    Not quite...

    If the weight of the labourer is 600 N, he will have a mass of 600/g, that is 61.2 kg. The total mass then becomes 61.2 + 50 = 111.2 kg.

    This will give you the work done for taking 1 sack. There are 4 more to go, so, 4 times as much work will be done!
