    USB Port
I have installed a Lexmark 1200 Printer for XP but the computer does not have access to the internet. When I try to print it tells me that the USB Port 1 has not been detected. What have I done wrong.

The internet and USB ports are totally separate issues, not connected to each other.

You say you installed it... or did you simply just plug it in? Big difference between those when printers are concerned.

When you go into Settings and Printers and faxes... and look at
Properties and then ports... what does it show you?

Something is odd about the "USB Port1 not installed" error which is weird... because USB ports are never named 1,2,3 or 4 like the old style serial ports... once set up you can plug into any of them it doesn't matter which one.

Could be indicative of an operating system problem.

I have inserted the disk and when a went into properties it showed it was installed in USB Port 1. I have tried putting to USB into another port but it still doesn't work.

See that's what is not making sense... there is no USB port one or two. You may have what LOOKS to be a VIRTUAL USB Port1 if you aren't aware of what you are looking at. When its properly installed it runs in any USB port you plug it into. It doesn't care which it was installed from.

Unplug the printer from the USB then go to Settings/printers and faxes/ and right click on the printer and then delete.

Try and reinstall it them through the install or setup with the printer disk. THEN plug the printer back in and see what happens then.

You usually have to intall the drivers and set it up BEFORE you plug the printer in. Its true of most USB devices as well that require a special setup.
