In what context? Your dog ate one? No problem. You want to give him a steady diet of them? Not a good idea, mainly because he needs the balance of nutrients specific to dogs.
Way back when we all got potatoes that sprouted eyes pretty quickly, and the eyes taste bitter if they are exposed to light and turn green (NO, they are not poisonous!) and they look awful so buyers demanded an eyeless potato.
So.. chemicals took care of all that. If you knew what they were you'd buy only organic. I had a friend (died young of cancer, BTW) whose father was a potato farmer and he sent his family away for a week when they harvested and sprayed, and the sprayers all wore moon suits. I read that a survey of farmers showed that they had their own family potato plots - organic and unsprayed after harvest.

Not really. It can give them gas. Cooked mashed potatoes are a good treat for your dog. Don't add butter, just a little garlic sprinkle mixed in

I realize you were a Vet tech for 12 years. Could you clarify this for me? I notice you are recommending garlic as an additive. Why is that?

My Vet has no problems with my dogs eating uncooked red potatoes (which they eat like people eat apples). I limit them because of the amount of starch. I thought potatoes were not recommended because of the starch content and it would seem that mashed potatoes have the same starch content.
