1991 Honda Civic Si starter won't turn over when really cold in the morning.
1991 Honda Civic Si starter won't turn over when really cold in the morning. But in the evening when it has warmed up slightly (but still cold) the starter turns over just fine and the car starts. I waited till the next morning to create the conditions to where the starter would not turn over. I tried to start the car normally and again no luck(clutch pedal was ensured all the way down and battery was replaced a few days earlier thinking that was the problem, and no trouble codes were noted on the PCM, I did hear a clicking sound from inside the car but not the slightest sound from the starter) but when I used a jumper to go directly to the starter solenoid from the batter, the starter turned over just fine. The car is usually kept outside, one night when I left it in the garage, it started just fine in the morning. Here lately now that the mornings seemingly haven't been as cold and with car being kept outside the starter has been turning over normally.

Item 6: In order to check the solenoid, put the transmission in Park and remove the push-on connector from the solenoid “S” terminal. Connect a jumper lead (12 AWG), or preferably a remote starter switch, between the positive battery terminal and the exposed “S” terminal on the solenoid. If the starter motor now operates, the solenoid is fine and the problem is with the ignition switch, neutral start switch, or wiring. If the starter motor still does not operate, replace the solenoid.

OK, just bought a honda civic dx, excellent shape and condition. I've noticed it shifts a little lazy... does that have anything to do with the shift lock release on the shifter? What exactly is the shift lock release?
