You go to the county clerk's office and check who the deed is registered to.

To find out who owns it, you go to normally the office that records the deeds and see who is the owner.

You then can go to the property tax office and find the name and address of who the property bill goes to.

Call a reputable Title Company in your area on the phone and tell them the property address. They will be able to look up the owner's name up for you (likely while you are on the phone) and email you the information.

It is becoming more difficult to reverse search owner information with so many people having cell phones. I would try to calling the name if they were listed in the phonebook. Try Googling their name. Try Facebook. Try talking to the neighbors about where the owners went. Try talking to their mailman and see if he has a forwarding address (or mail an empty envelope with your return address w/ 1st class postage that has a little note printed under the stamp "Address correction requested"... You should get an address back from the Post Office). Other ideas: Try calling other people with the same last name (potential relatives... makes for a fun phone call). Remember what Title Company you called initially and use them if you close on the property. Good luck!

A Title company will do this for free? Not likely. Nor will a mail carrier give out that info. And you can't send mail without a name. Remember the question was asking for the name of the owner.

Perhaps not in your state ScottGem... but I do this all the time (weekly) when I come across a vacant home or home that needs some TLC or if I just want to know the information.

My main point was that they form a relationship with a reputable Title Company. If the Title Company knows you are interested in purchasing a property (any property) and that they will be given the business why wouldn't they give you the information that will eventually pay-off for them?

The information being asked for is public information not privileged... and most Title Companies would do this because it is their business to help people do their due diligence. It's only a few keystrokes to figure it out and a lot easier than traveling 1/2 a day to the County Recorder's office that is miles away and paying a $0.25 a page to photocopy or print a single page.

With regards to the Postal Carrier it depends on the Postal Carrier. A good Postal Carrier knows a lot of information about the subdivisions they deliver in, the forwarding of mail, and if you approach the conversation in a friendly manner you are likely to see results. Most Postal Carriers have excellent memories because they have to almost have photographic memories to deliver and sort mail. I have met Postal carriers that can tell me not only the family that lived in a particular home but also who their kids were and the families before them.

    Good luck!
