Can a puppy who survived parvo die from being over fed?
I rescued a puppy whom I named Milo from a partial hit and run about two months ago. He wasn't able to eat or drink for days because his jaw could not open. So I immediately took him to the pet hospital. After many IVs and medications, he survived. No surgery was needed which I was thankful for and he began to heal relatively fast with the help of antibiotics. We kept him right outside our porch and he was free to roam the yard as he pleased. Mind you, he was the first puppy we ever owned together. A couple of weeks later, we noticed a change in him. Milo lost his appetite and was acting very strange. He wasn't responding to our calls and he was losing most of his weight. I took him to the pet hospital and had him tested for parvo. He was positive, but we caught it at a very early stage. Milo stayed at the hospital for four nights for observation and treatment. He had survived pravo. Milo was, again, a survivor. We brought him home and started his recovery process. Our doctor had mentioned that since he has not been eating a lot, his stomach had shrunk and that it was best to give him small portions but often- perhaps every two hours just to ease him in and should consist of wet food mixed with kibbles and plain yogurt with probiotic cultures to help his digestive tract. On the third morning, the bowl was a little bit more hoping to fatten him up a bit. We didn't think it would be too much of an issue. He was a very hungry puppy. I let him out just so that he may relieve himself. After a few minutes, I heard him trying to clear his throat. I watched him and tried to help thinking he probably ate a bug or something that was irritating him. Then his movement became quicker. It wasn't getting any better. His throat wasn't clearing and he was trying to barf it out but nothing would come out. Then he started losing his balance. That was when we knew he was suffocating. I don't know if it was an allergic reaction to the food he ate or if his stomach burst from being overfed. Can that happen to a recent parvo survivor? Are there any other explanations as to why or why this can happen? Please help.

Sadly, yes. He passed. I spoke to his vet and she said that he suffered a heart attack. The virus made it to his heart.

If he had been outside in the past (with parvo), that virus was still lurking in your yard -- and also in your house. Dog experts will give you info on how to rid your property of the virus.

I'm sorry to hear about your pup, what a horrible thing to have happen. Did you take him back to the vet after that incident or just bury him at home?

Without the vet doing a necropsy it would be impossible to say what killed the pup. I doubt it would be to do with parvo, a more likely explanation would be a sting or bite or as you said an allergy to the food, although if he had eaten it before a sudden allergic reaction would be rare.
