I have a 1995 dodge diesal 2500.Every time its cold(20 below or colder)the abs and check engine light both come on at about 40 to 45 miles per hour. I can't seem to figure it out, I also keep it in a heated garage

With many vehicles, when the ABS light comes on the CEL automatically comes on. My bet is that if you completely change your brake fluid the problem will go away. I recommend that you use Valvoline Brake fluid, which is ABS approved for trucks (HBH rated). Should be easy to solve, provided corrosion has not developed in the ABS; otherwise, it could be a very expensive repair. Clean each wheel's ABS sensor with WD-40 and a rag, while you are at it. Brake fluid should be completely changed every two years.

SORRY just asked this question but it's the abs light and the brake light not the check engine light it also pulls to the driver side when its cold like that... The left caliper is likely hanging up, since the fluid has not been regularly changed; i.e. the piston is not fully retracting. This is causing it to pull to the left. Hopefully, changing the brake fluid will still take care of all of your problems.

Putting new brake shoes on does not solve the problem of a caliper piston not retracting. Due to not regularly replacing brake fluid, there may be corrosion. This will require either rebuilding or replacing the caliper, if the problem persists.

Try my easy suggestion and let me know the outcome. Changing the brake fluid on a truck is super simple. I can do it by myself in 35 minutes. Cost $5.00 for fluid. As my father found out last year on his Toyota Camry, not regularly changing the brake fluid can result in a $2,500 brake repair bill when corrosion develops in the ABS.
