Well there's this guy I love.. and he could have bipolar disorder...
My boyfriend has recently started counciling and for years he has be suicidal. From what he has told them he could have bipolar disorder but they aren't sure yet. I've read about people who were in relationship with someone who is bipolar and/or suicidal that have been a huge help. My situation could be different though.
I really don't know where to start. But here it goes..
Well first off as I said before he's been suicidal for years, he blames himself for everything that goes wrong involving him, has delusions of seeing and hearing someone that terrifies him and has grown violent toward himself(never toward me). During times of stress he blacksouts but is still counsious, its like he's in a daze.
Through it all I try to calm him down and keep him positive. After all of that he's sweet, loving and a laid back kind of guy. All the while I know everything is still bothering him.
I don't know if what I'm doing is right or wrong. Or if I should just give him space to help himself? All of this is weighing heavily on my mind and I really need some guidance. Could someone give me some advice please!

What you are doing is positive supportive reinforcement, but he will still need a proper diagnosis, counselling and possibly medication.

What you can do for him is not be too helpful; it may irritate him (bipolars, if he is one, are easily irritated, upset). I don't know what you mean in your original post that 'they are not sure he is bipolar'. If he was assessed properly and was cooperative, it would be been fairly easy to determine. Once he has the right doctor, it will be easy for him. He will learn how to recognize his 'down' times and seek quiet and solitute to cope with it until it passes.
What you could do is read up on this disorder so you understand it. That would help him immensely. There is a lot of information in Google you could access right at your own computer.
Good luck with your friend. He is lucky to have you.

Well he doesn't know for sure because its still a little too early to know since he's only spoken with them a couple times. I shall do my best to not be too helpful . Thank you for everything.
