Display permanently set at 640 by 480, and mouse doesn't show...
    Here's the problem.

I recently restored my registry using scanreg, and since then my computer worked fine. For about a day. ;>.>

Now, the display is always set at 640 by 480, and my mouse doesn't show up at all. It's as if there isn't one there to begin with.

I tabbed in and tried to change my settings, mainly the resolution. It had no effect whatsoever. The only thing that happened was I had to restart my computer.

No problems before today, though, and it works fine in Safe Mode (just can't access the internet)

Any ideas on how to solve this?

OK can we have a little more information to help us resolve your issue.

What OS are you running ?
WHat was the reason for running a scanreg ?
Have you tried updating the graphics drivers?
    FULLY patched from Micro$oft ?

I'm using Windows 98. The reason for running scanreg was that I couldn't even boot to Windows without there being some kind of error. Link:

    https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/operat...ror-52711.html

(We found scanreg, it was buried deep within... somewhere. I'm not even sure where, but we copied it to a floppy disk for easy access)

I don't see how updating the driver would help anything, since it is unlikely that it could have gone from fully functional to completely useless overnight. (This happened within 12 hours, maybe even less. Worked fine one night, didn't in the morning)

I'm not sure what you mean by fully patched, but my family and I have obtained this legally. IF this isn't what you mean, then please explain.

    Thanks for the info.
Patching refers to the update and security patches from Windows Update.

Normally when there is a display issue as you have described the FIRST thing to check is the graphics drivers.

When was the last time you did a full reinstall of Win98 as this OS does benefit from a reinstll every couple of years.
May simply be a case of the reg error was an indicator of something deeper being ustable.

My advice, after checking the driver, would be to backup your system, format and reinstall.

;>.< That seems so obvious now. I need to think a little. ;>.o

I'm not sure how often we do a reinstall of the OS, but I'll do that and everything else you suggested.

Should I do it in Safe Mode, or will that not work properly? It's a little hard to do everything with just a keyboard and no mouse...
