zf542 bolting 460 to small block version
I have a 92 ford f250, 4x4, with a 351 windsor and the 5 speed zf542. The old windsor died on me and I currently don't have the money to rebuild it. I have a 460 that I recently rebuilt sitting in my shop and I decided to put that into my pickup. I have the ability to fabricate parts to make this work, my only concern was bolting this big block to the small block version of the zf542. I can make the adapter plate to bolt the engine to this transmission, my only concern is I'm not completely sure if the input shaft is the same. Does anyone know if there is any other differences with this transmission other than the bellhousing bolt pattern? From what I have read, they are basically the same internally so I have no doubts that it will hold up, like I say my only concern is with this input shaft. Is the input shaft the same for the small block vs the big block? Any information will be much appriciated, I won't get to finish this truck until the weekend so I'm trying to get as much info as possible so that I know what I will need to do. Thanks in advanced for any information about this. Mike
