Basement drain backs up during heavy rain.
The home was built in 1948 (Wayne MI), and is tied into the cities sewer system.
Just last week we had a heavy rain. I come home from work, go down stairs only to see our carpet soaking wet. I remove the carpet and see that the water level in the drain is flush with the floor. :confused: The rain stopped and the water level in the drain went down quite a bit... It has since happened twice... I called the city and they went out to the to check the sewer on their end, and they said all was well and the water was flowing just fine. When the backup occurred, I used the shower and the toilet and it didn't seem to make the water rise any more... Any idea what the cause could be? If this was your problem. What steps would you take? Your floor drain is tied into the rainwater drainage line. The rain overloaded the rainwater drain and it backed up through the floor drain. They make a floordrain check valve called a Floor Drain FloodGuard, (see image). Install one of those and your flood worries are over. Regards, Tom
