You need to test it with a multitester to see if it is dead or alive. With most fridges the problem is either one of the following 3 areas:

    1. Defrost heater faulty
    2. Defrost limit switch faulty
    3. Defrost timer faulty

To properly check all the components out you need a multitester.

Appliance Parts Pros.com Discount Appliance Parts ? Appliance Repair Parts

Here is an excellent site all about appliances. If you can't figure out what your problem is you can call them up and they can help you over the phone for free and advise you what parts to get to replace the bad parts. I've used these folks for years. I have a top/bottom refrig that at least once every 2-3 years I need to get another evaporator fan motor. These guys beat everyone's prices hands down and have reasonable shipping charges as well. Now I have a spare fan motor on hand for 2013 when I need it.
