thank you for the replies to my previous question. I do intend to change the trany fluid n filter. There's sum minor things that need to be done like new plugs n wires. I've noticed a small missfire in a cylinder but no biggie. I've tried searchin the net but haven't had good luck finding what the shift lock release is... what exactly is it. I will prob have no need for it, but am curious as to what it is? I'm just trying to get as much info on he car as I feel the more I know the better I can service and diagnose other issues if they ever tend to arise. So anyone... whats the shift lock release?? Lol

    Interlock System

Many Hondas are equipped with the following devices to prevent inadvertent shifting:

. Shift Lock System. The shift lock system prevents the shift lever from moving to R or D4 from the Park position, unless the brake pedal is depressed and the accelerator is in its rest position. In case of system malfunction, the shift lever can be released by pushing a key into the release slot near the shift lever.

. Key Interlock System. The ignition key cannot be removed from the ignition switch, unless the shift lever is in Park. When the shift lever is in any position other than Park, a solenoid is activated, making it impossible for the key to be removed until the shift lever is moved to Park.

OK, just bought a honda civic dx, excellent shape and condition. I've noticed it shifts a little lazy... does that have anything to do with the shift lock release on the shifter? What exactly is the shift lock release?
