Need help.. sewage backing up into basement. Towns responsibility?
Sewage keeps backing up into my basement, now seems like every other month. I always have to call the puplic works to come clean out the main sewage hole. They keep telling me that its gets clogged up with leaves and that can not be avoided. They advised me to put a butterfly stoppage and I have done that but still having some backup not as bad as before but bad enough to fill the bathroom up.. My question is, is there anything I can do about the town taking some responsibility in this matter. I have contacted the boroughs clerk and still waiting on some kind of news. But does anyone have any advise?

If your neighbors are having the same problem you might consider a class action suite.
If you have installed a sewage backflow preventer, (see image) you have done all that you could do.
This is exactly the reason my area has outlawed everything but sewage and gray water to enter the city or county mains. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Tom

Sewage backing up into basement [ 1 Answers ]

If sewage is backing up in basement and saturating entire carpet/pad shouldn't it be completely replaced after plumbing problem is fixed? Doesn't carpet harbor spores and bacteria? Isn't it a health hazard? How do you clean up after something like this? What would a plumber suggest? Thanks, Tom
