New toilet base is smaller than the old one & has left a gap between the lino and pan
I had a new toilet installed and the base was slightly smaller than the old base. This has resulted in an ugly gap between the laminate flooring and base of the new toilet where the floorboards are visible.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I'm not keen to replace the laminate as it is only 3 or 4 years old.

    Thanks, Ian

If you have any of the laminate, you can cut small pieces to fit in. If not, go to a good flooring supply store and try to get a piece as close as possible and do the same. Another possible solution is to fill the area in with wood pieces and try to match the laminate with Minwax stain. If all else fails, cut a small rug or mat to match the new base.

    Hi Ian...

They make a toilet base repair plate for exactly these circumstances... see image. Unfortunately it is usually installed under the toilet so too bad your plumber didn't know about this or at least mention its availability.

The top base plate shown below is 22.5" long x 11" wide... see if that will cover the void around the toilet base (they come larger). If the base plate will cover the holes in the existing floor you can cut the base plate around the toilet and install it or have the plumber come back and reinstall the toilet over the plate for the best finish look.

Check out this website for more information:

Otherwise, you have the very reasonable options mentioned by ma0641 above... ;)
