I'm a British Citizen marrying a lovely Tunisian man - My question is that there are 2 types of marriage contract, one which contains a Prenup, basically saying anything we owned before the marriage remains are own, and anything we accuired within the marriage is split if the marriage dissolves.

This is not a nice subject to think about, but it's something we want to do - To prove the doubters he's not after my property, etc.

So is this marriage contract sufficient in UK law - Or should I get an English Prenup drawn up also?

We're marrying in Tunisia - Then hopefully (Visa dependant) will settle back in the UK.

Thank God I can reply to you and please pay particular attention to what I say. I live in Tunisia, am married to a Tunisian and my marriage is good thank God. My friend, is married to my husband's brother, she has this prenup piece of paper saying what's hers is hers and his is his - all rubbish! This guy now wants to divorce my friend, why? Well he has bled her dry! The house here in Tunisia which she built and paid every penny for as he has never worked a day in his life, he claims as his as she believed him when he told her she could not build a house here in her name as she is Irish - she believed that the prenup would protect her and now she has a huge legal batttle on her hands all because she trusted him totally and let her heart rule her head. The advice of the Embasy is to go to a lawyer here in Tunisia before you get married, keep your money firmly in your pocket and never loose your power! I wish you luck. If he truly loves you he will respect you and help to safeguard you and your future. Also please ask the lawyer about the laws of succession as they are not like the UK and if your husband dies and you have no children the estate can go to his family and you out on the road!
