    1/2' copper pipe, does it have go all the way in the gatorbite coupler to seal?

    I have cut a pipe by mistake and need to put a coupler in place, the problem cannot move pipe back and forth, no play in pipe the way it is mounted. I can move pipe down, so I may have to cut off a little of the pipe to get the gatorbite coupler on

    There must be some play in the pipe to move back and forth to seat the fitting. If you can't seat a gatorbite coupling why not use a 1/2" compression or dresser coupling,(see image) Then you won't have to slide the pipes back to seat the fitting, The parts will simply slip on and tighten up.
