I supposedly owe X dollars based on income I was projected to earn but actually earned zero dollars over the period of the order.

My kids are 28 and 21 now, orders for each terminated when they turned 18 (no college).

I feel X dollars should be zero dollars.

What do I need to do to get this in black and white?

Go back to the court and offer proof that you did not receive the income you were projected to and ask for a modification.

I am not sure that 3 plus years after the fact there is a lot you can do. What you needed to do was when the kids were still getting the money, go back to show no income and get it changed.

Normally support is based on actual earning, not guessed at earnings. You will need to try and go back, if the judge will allow it.

Wait--you didn't earn any money, so you feel that the other parent should just have to go without the court-ordered child support completely because YOU didn't earn what you were projected to?

You STILL need to support your children. YOU brought them into this world, so it's YOUR responsibility to care for them.

I hope any judge laughs at you for waiting this long to go back for a modification and orders you to pay your back child support like a good citizen that cares for their children should.

If you owe arrears then your going to owe them because you didn't modify them before. Since you knew this was going on you were suppose to inform the courts. There are federal laws on the books preventing judges from modifying arrears.
