If a person is arrested for a felony but the charges were dropped are they a felon?
I was arrested in NJ for a Third Degree offense which is what they call a felony but the charges were downgraded to a disorderly persons offense (or misdemeanor). The charges were eventually dismissed. I know it will be on my arrest record but am I considered a felon?

    Hello m:

No, you're NOT a felon. Your arrest record means NOTHING in the ordinary scope of things. Any potential employer you may encounter will NOT find out about it. Your bank won't find out about it. Your potential suitors can't find out about it... Being arrested is no big deal. Being CONVICTED is a big deal.

No your not by the court you were dropped down to a misdemeanor so that means you have a misdemeanor 100% positive

Shoplifting charges dropped [ 5 Answers ]

If you're arrested for shoplifting and when you go to court the charges are dropped, do the records still show or come up in the system as you having a criminal record? Will the fingerprints taken still have an affect on getting a job when the court ended up giving a warning instead?
