On average, an opening is 241/2 X34. If the opening is too wide you tend to get noise out of the opening space. You will need a cleat under the countertop to screw the upper lip of the DW to the countertop. Wiring and supply are underneath so clearance is not usually an issue. How are you going to drain it?

Still a little gray on that so please correct me if I'm wrong. I am planning on using 1 1/2 though the floor, then a 45 with a 30 to the vent, a P trap under that, an 1 1/2 to a 2" reducer so I can hook to the 2" drain from the kitchen drain.

I don't know your local plumbing code or what the distance is you are covering, but the p trap usually goes as close to the appliance as possible. If you are going more than 6 ft. I would consider putting the trap next to the DW and adding an Studor vent above the trap. That way, the water flows directly to the stack with vented air instead of pushing the water ahead of it and possibly creating a negative pressure behind. Make sure you read the DW installation requirements, most of them require a loop in the drain pipe that goes above the water level in the DW. Let us know how it works out and good luck. Google "installing an island sink" It shows venting solutions.
