I need to know if I give up my parental rights, how do I get rid of the child support as well?[/I][/B] I have never seen the child and was never contacted about the child until I was notified by child support enforcement. The child and her mother live in another state and I do not anticipate on ever being able to see this child unless the child finds me. I don't even have a phone number or address to contact the mother. On the paperwork I get, it gives me no information, just the mother's name, the child's name and birth date. The only way that I know that she is in another state is because each letter I get comes from DCSE Interstate Collections. I am in the state of Missouri.

You need to file for a paternity test.

You cannot 'get rid' of any child support responsibilities if the child is in fact yours. You took the chance, now you pay for the consequence.

The only way, as far as I know, to not pay child support, is if the child is adopted either by a new family or by a new father... otherwise it is and will be your responsibility to support this child financially until the age of 18.

I will agree, first you need to have a paternity test to be sure you are the father.

Next the court is required to tell you where they are, and you have the right to file that they keep you aware of their current address and allow you proper visitation. You need to file for all of that.

And no, you can not get rid of your responsibility to pay child support without the mothers ( other parent) and the courts permission.

You have the right to file to be sure that the amount requested is proper.

There are several threads here that discuss this question. The answer is always the same, you can relinquish parental rights, but not financial responsibility.

Just because the name of the collection agency has the word Interstate in it doesn't mean they live in another state.

But that's neither here nor there. When you were first informed aboutthis child you should have immediately contacted the agency, requesting a paternity test. Do so now and go on from there.

Has it ever been proven that you are the father? Unless there's been a DNA test, you are not liable for paying child support. But if you are proven to be the father, the only way you get out of paying child support is if someone adopts the child.
