    Post office
I have an apt on the side of a private house. I have a slot in my door for mail which I've
Been getting regularly for over fifteen years. My postman retired. Two people took his
Place. They put my mail in my landlords box (who opens a few saying he thought it was
His). I spoke to the postoffice people and they said I'm delivering the mail for t his address up here (landlord).. I reported it to the local P.O. They put a note to the mailpersons... one of them delivers now to me, the other won't. Yesterday no one delivered mail on the entire block. Who can best help me?

Well the first thing you would have to do is file a complaint with the police for your landlord opening your mail.then after filing a complaint with the police get the d.c numbers and go to the court house and open a private criminal complaint.be sure you have the names of the mailmen the time date and names of the people u speak with at the post office. Be sure to be very theral with all of your information

I would start by speaking to the postmaster in person and politely but firmly demanding that he/she be sure that the carriers are properly instructed how to do their jobs.

    Hello j:

Unless you want to be on the street, I would NOT call the cops on my landlord.. What WOULD I do, is what lawyer said.

You said you reported it to the post office. You didn't say you reported it to the postmaster = boss at the P.O.

What I'm telling you is to keep going up the chain-of-command until you get satisfaction.

Is there anything in your address to differentiate between yours and your landlord's beside your name differences -- add "SIDE DOOR" OR "APT 1" or some such? My friend lived in a small apartment at the back of a bar and had a heck of a time getting her mail until she worked out something with the Postmaster to make her apt stand out from the bar address (which was also her address). The Postmaster didn't even realize, until she spoke up, that there was an apartment at the back of the bar.

First, may I call your attention to the guidelines for using the comments feature found here:

While I agree that reporting the landlord was bad advice it was opinon not fact. Therefore it did not warrant a negative rating. As for AK's advice, you did not say you spoke directly to the Postmaster, you simply stated the "P.O. people". I was going to make the same suggestion. So your rating there was also inappropriate.

My suggestion is similar to Wondergirl's. Add something to your address. For example 101A Elm St where your landlord is 101. But this needs to be worked out with the Postmaster specifically.

Go in person to the Post Office and speak with the Postmaster and ask him for his HELP! Ask him what you need to do to ensure you get your mail. He will probably suggest that something like Wondergirl above mentioned such as adding Apartment 1 or Apartment A to your mailing address and then ADD the words Apartment 1 or Apartment A on the door slot on your door.

Is your door visible from the landlord's mailbox? If it is you could affix a large note beside the mailbox saying that "Apt A is this way and an arrow" or something like that to attract the mail carrier's attention.

Check with the Post Master first before you do anything that would not be postal regs.

jammy23 finds this helpful : Will do. Ok.. misunderstanding... I appreciate the fact that you even took the time to reply. I mean it.. I apologize.

Apology accepted. We understand you are new to the site and it does take some getting used to learn how to use it to the greatest efficiency.

Yes if you did not speak directly to the postmaster, then you need to do so. Anything that will make it clearer which is your mail, should also help. Also, since it's that time of the year. Make it a point to give something to the mailperson that is properly delivering your mail and not the other one. That should also send a message.
