Potty pads are so confusing for a puppy. You're basically telling the dog that it's okay to go in the house.

Your dog needs to learn what's expected of her. Dogs aren't born knowing that we humans don't like their urine and feces in our homes.

Patience and consistency is key. It can take a while, but you have to stick to it. No more potty pads. When you take your dog outside do not leave until she potties. If you're on a walk than she should be doing her potty then. When she does, lots of praise.

Never yell at her when she has an accident, never put her nose in her mistakes, or smack her. Only positive reinforcement. If she has an accident immediately take her outside to reinforce that this is where you expect her to do her business.

How long is she in the crate? The crate should be used at night, and at 5 months she should be okay overnight. Make sure she goes for a last potty break right before. It helps to put water and food off the floor for at least an hour before bed, that should help.

During the day she shouldn't be in the crate for long periods. The rule is 1 hour for every month of age, so for her age she shouldn't be in the crate for longer than 5 hours during the day.

She should be going out at least once every 2 hours, but once she learns that potty is for outside only, she'll likely just ask when she needs to go.

It's best to go out with her while she's learning, that way, when she does what is expected, you can praise her for it. Remember, lots of praise, a treat, let her know that you're very pleased that she went outside.

It can take time, so be patient, and positive reinforcement and consistency and in no time your pup will be potty trained. :)
