How do i gauge my internet usage?
I have just switched internet provider and have plan with unlimited usage and I have apparently used 76gb in 11 days. Both my son and I have laptops I use mine for emails downloading the odd film (about to a week) and YouTube (approx 1/2 hour per day) My son speaks to his girl on skype every night for about 2 hours plays x box live for about an hour and I suspect there is an element of porn involved (you porn and x videos in his history).
    Does this seem right?

Those are indeed porn sites. And the only way they would get in his history is if he visited those sites. There are parental controls built into a lot of operating systems, but otherwise there are some good third party programs you can look into.

I think Webroot makes some pretty good parental controls although I have never used it myself. I have heard some good things though.

Silly me, but I have to ask

If you have an unlimited service, why does it matter how much you are using

I think either the poster mis-wrote and actually switched /from/ an unlimited provider or is just wondering where all their bandwidth is goin'.

If it's unlimited then who cares where you're bandwidth is going. As long as you're still getting you projected download and upload speeds who cares about the rest. Unlimited is a good word in certain aspects, this would be one of them.

It slows down when it hits 100gb as part of a "fair usage policy". I just need to know whether 11 days of fairly heavy usage would use 76gb.The porn is not a problem as my son is 20 yrs old

    Gauge my internet usage
WIth reference to my previous question. My internet is unlimited but comes with a fair usage policy which slows down when I reach 100gb.I have so far reach 76gb in 11 days using 2 laptops. I just need to know whether this is normal to use so much as we are not downloading 24/7 but both computers are in use most evenings.
    Thanks

76 Gb in 11 days would NOT be from the simple use you have described, but a LARGE degree of downloading.

I would be inclined to ask your son exactly what he has been downloading.

It's possible your bittorrent client is set to load at start up and stay loaded, this would account for a lot of traffic.
