    New crowns
I had two crowns made and when I went in to have them permanently sealed, my dentist suggested I test them out for a couple of weeks to see if they fit well. I was rescheduled for my next appointment in three weeks. During the first week, one of the crowns fell out. I immediately called my dentist and they told me to be careful with the tooth and place it in a safe place before my next appointment. I was not told to come in right away and that is was OK to wait till my next appointment and just to be careful when I eat. Well, when I went in to have them sealed, my dentist told me that my tooth migrated a little and that this was not uncommon because the tooth did not have the crown to hold it in place. So, my dentist told me that I had to have the crowns redone and resent to the lab to build up the porceline. I was charged an extra lab fee of $250.00 and x-ray fees, impression fees etc... Is this normal? I had already paid to have them sealed, I told my dentist that they felt fine why would my dentist tell me to test them out?

I am not sure why he would say "test them out" unless he was thinking they might be a little high. But he could have really checked that out before you left. But that is the only thing I can think of. As far as your crown coming off, that should not have happened. When you called the office, they should have gotten you in that day or the next day. Anyone that works in a dental office, knows how fast a tooth can move and that the crown may not fit if you wait too long. I feel the DDS did not have his staff well trained. I would talk to your DDS about the extra charges, when you only did what his staff told you to do. Good Luck!

Definitely you should have been seen as soon as possible after the crown fell out. Here in Canada, the cost of the crowns includes any impressions needed. I'd definitely have a sit down with your dentist and tell him your concerns. If you don't have success with that, contact your local dental licensing body and ask them if this is normal procedure, they can guide you with the rest. Good luck!
