I posted this in another category but hopefully can get some help here. I have 4 computers networked together, two upstairs and two downstairs. My setup is... From internet modem to Belkin Wireless G router. Two ethernet cables going from router to two computers upstairs (hardwired). The two downstairs are wireless using Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter. The both work fine from internet browsing etc. but when I try to Play World of Warcraft on the family computer downstairs, I can't, my network on the computer stall and cannot play. The downstairs computers are directly under the upstairs computer and router. All computers are running XP, have 1 gig memory and at least a 2.4 gig processor. I have thought about drilling a hole through my floor/ceiling and running an ethernet cable to the family computer downstairs to be able to play. I want the holes as close to baseboard/wall as possible. Other idea was a 50 foot ethernet cable out the window, down though downstairs window and hooked that way. Any ideas or suggestions what the best way is?

If the walls line up pretty well between the two floors, you should be able to do the wiring without too much trouble. Get a long drill bit (one foot long 3/8" spade bit will get you through no problem, and will be wide enough to run the cat-5 cable) Drill from the upper floor down, so you can line up with the baseboard. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even pull the baseboard off and run the wire underneath there, but that's overkill. You should be close to the wall in the downstairs room automatically, but if you have any landmarks to work from, such as ductwork, you can measure and drill at an angle to get both ends of the hole where they need to be.

Another option is if there are closets in the two rooms, especially if they're roughly on top of each other, is to drill your hole anywhere convenient in there, and surface wire the cable to where you need it.

Edit to add: When you run the drill bit through, first test it with a regular boring bit to make sure you're not going through a joist.
