Buttery Smell from hot water system
N a block of flats the residents are experiencing a 'buttery smell' from their hot water tap in their communal kitchen and ensuite handbasin and shower head. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen please

Gas or electric heater? One heater for each unit or a single boiler for all? Did this just start or come on gradually? Between you and me, I've had worse smelling water complaints other then butter. Back to you, Tom

Electric single boiler for all. Was apparent when all the residents moved in in September but the building is older than this. Thank you for input.

This can all be traced back to the water heater/boiler. Can you tell me more about it? Is it only for hot water or is it a combo heating and hot water boiler. What's its brand name and what capacity is it? Is it flushed on a regular maintenance schedule? Who's responsible for taking care of all these units? These are the people I want to talk to. Regards, Tom
