    What Manufacturer?
Sometimes the model numbers will tell, a 12 for every Ton.
    If 30 is the Number, then it would be 2 1/2 tons. 12 + 12 = 24, plus 6(half of 12), it would be 2 1/2 Tons.
If 48 is the Number, then it would be 4 Tons(12 into 48 equals 4)
Physical size may help determine which.

No difference. The 2 and the 4 to start the number is probably just what number they are in the series.

We just had a new Trane system installed. The model (XB13) for the air conditioner (air compressor) outside unit is 1.5 tons. The air handler model (2TGB) is 2 tons. Is this okay or some type of mistake?
