    Hello e:

I didn't know you needed ID to sign a birth certificate.. I would have figured HAVING the baby is enough to identify you... But, if you need to show ID, and all you have is your student ID, then use that. What? Are they going to say you're NOT the mother??

Point is proving her (the Mothers) ACTUAL name... not an alias. Clearly there is little dispute about if she is the mother. Could establish a legal document (the Birth Certificate) based on false information without an actual ID to validate it.

The school you attend required proof of ID when you registered (or should have), if you don't have a drivers license or state issued ID card... use your birth certificate. Will save a lot of potiential issues down the road.

Try getting or renewing a drivers license these days... school ID won't cut it.. and the Birth Certificate is a root document. (maybe not the right terminology) that all other id's are based on.

But I bet english isn't her first language based on how she wrote that question... and she might not even be in the USA.

Of course the OP could be the father! So the question is whether someone is telling the OP they need to provide ID to sign the birth certificate.
