    Security Deposit on a Month to Month lease. (South Carolina)
    My landlord kept my Security Deposit claiming that I gave inadequate notice of exiting a verbal month to month lease. I was under a lease for one year, and fulfilled the terms of that lease, then went on to rent under a verbal month to month deal. I gave notice on September 7th that I would be moving out before the end of September. My rent was due at the 1st of each month, and I paid for the entire month of September. I returned my keys on September 24th to the landlord and provided a forwarding address. As I understand in South Carolina the law states that because I did not make notice on the 1st of Sept. when my rent was due, that I am liable to pay for the full month of October, but he re-rented the home for October to a new renter, can he keep my Security Deposit for the rent of October, and also have a new renter pay for rent on the same place for October? I am under the impression that he is getting paid rent twice for the same place, once by me and once by the new tenant. Am I responsible for the rent in October if he got a new renter?

    Hello H:

    No. He can't double dip. Sue him in small claims court.
