    Help!
    The sum of two numbers is 57. If the larger of the two numbers is 9 less than twice the smaller, find the two numbers.?

    Let the two numbers be a and b, where a is the larger number.

    Their sum is 57. So, we get:

    a + b = 57

    The second statement says that a is 9 less than b, when b is multiplied by two... that means that b is larger than a when it is doubled.

    We get:
    a + 9 = 2b

    Meaning that only when you add 9 to a that those two results become the same.

    Now, you have two equations and two unknowns. Solve for a and b using simultaneous equations.

    a + b = 57
    a + 9 = 2b
